  • HIV was found in five gay men Los Angeles, California.
  • HIV was discovered in 1981.
  • HIV originated in non-human primates.
  • HIV was transfered to humans in the 20th century.
  • As of 2006, HIV/AIDS had  killed about 25 million people since 1981.
  • The death rate reduced by 80%  and raised the life expenctancy for newl.y diagnosed infected people in between ages 20-50 year.
  • The death rate decreased because of a medicine they discovered in 1987 called azidothymidine.
  • There are currently 1.1 million Americans living with HIV, and 21% of these people do not know they are infected.
  • HIV is transmitted by sexual contact, blood/blood stream, needles, blood transfusions, direct contact, bodliy fluids, and secretions.
  • These groups of people are most likely to get HIV babies, sexually active people, teens, sick people, and last hospitalized people.
